Anthony Nolan is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer who need a blood stem cell, or bone marrow transplant. In 1974, Anthony Nolan’s mother, Shirley, set up the world’s first bone marrow register to match donors with people who desperately needed a transplant.

In 1991, Dr Peter Harf and Professor Gerhard Ehninger founded DKMS in honour of Harf’s wife Mechtild, who had sadly lost her battle with blood cancer. It is now the world’s biggest donor registry, with over 12.5 million potential donors registered worldwide and has provide over 120,000 second chances at life.
